Working with dreams will awaken the psyche.

Discover how to Awaken the Psyche with Dreamwork and Spiritual Practices.

We are all naturally intuitive and have the innate ability to awaken the psyche with dreamwork and various spiritual practices. According to ancient and modern spiritual philosophies, dreams originate from the psyche (soul). Science also validates co-occurring brain activity and memory processing. This post focuses on our ability to access higher consciousness and psychic opening through a commitment to recalling, recording, processing, and applying our dream guidance. Throughout history, spiritual practices such as meditation, prayer, dreamwork, and working with your spiritual ideals have been optimal paths to soul development.

When you commit to this spiritual growth process, your intuition sharpens, and enhanced psychic abilities may manifest. These gifts are natural outcomes of this work and should not be pursued for self-aggrandizement.  Exploring your dreams will enrich your life immensely and provide direct guidance from your soul. Here are some of the psychic gifts that you may already be experiencing:

Telepathic Dreaming is Psychic Dreaming

Sunny comes to me often in dreams.

One way that working with your dreams awakens the psyche is that you become more telepathic. Telepathy occurs when you communicate your thoughts to others in this and other dimensions. This is a common and natural occurrence considering the “Oneness principle.” This is the philosophical concept that everything is interconnected and part of the whole. Familiar examples include psychically communicating with or receiving helpful information about another person, knowing who will call or text you, or having an intuitive insight when a loved one needs you.

In dreams and deep meditation, you may also be visited by alive or deceased loved ones who want to share love or communicate with you. Various spiritual beings may also visit you. Throughout history, people have also reported connecting directly with the Divine via apparitions in transformative dreams, visions, meditation, and prayer. In religious traditions, this may be referred to as theophany, the visible manifestation of God’s presence.

You may also have telepathic contact with your animal friends. The closer the bond, the more likely this will occur. For example, one of my cats, Sunny, was withdrawn for a few weeks. In a dream, he came to me telepathically to show me his favorite toy that I had put away. After I resumed playing with him with this toy, he was happy again. Also, Lady, my collie/German shepherd friend, and guardian from when I was one to sixteen, still visits me in dreams.

Awaken the Psyche: Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, Clairsentience

Woman with open arms to the sun symbolizes awakening with dreamwork.
We can all awaken to our true nature.

Regular meditation and dreamwork can more easily awaken the psyche than sporadic practice. One possible effect of consistent dreamwork and meditation is becoming gradually clairvoyant. Clairvoyance is the ability to see with the third eye, the invisible eye between your physical eyes. When this inner vision opens, you can visualize your dreams more clearly. You may see colors, images, or entire scenes more vividly. This may also occur during your waking hours when you practice meditation or quiet your mind.

Other psychic senses, such as clairaudience (clear hearing) or clairsentience (clear feeling or sensing), can also develop. These intuitive abilities improve your capacity to hear messages or music or sense energies in dreams and when awake.

Finding moments to center yourself amidst the chaos of your busy days is crucial. Like many people, you may feel pressured to have extended screen time. However, during quiet moments, the potential for psychic opening is at its peak. You boost your innate psychic abilities when you listen to and honor your inner voice. Remember, you are naturally psychic.

Astral Projection, Lucid Dreaming, and Creative Dreaming

Mystical image of person reaching for the moon. Dreamwork awakens the psyche, including astral projection, lucid dreaming, and creative dreaming.
We discover our soul's purpose through dreams and intuitive guidance.

Astral projection is another way that dreamwork awakens the psyche. When you sleep, your soul travels through other dimensions. For example, when you become aware that you are flying, this heightened awareness corresponds with your ability to have lucid dreams more often.

Lucid dreaming occurs when you become aware that you are dreaming. Your conscious mind merges with your unconscious and superconscious mind. Lucid dreaming is also related to creative dreaming. Research indicates that creative people have a more active and vivid dream life.

In creative dreaming, you can start to control your dream actions to solve problems, improve yourself, enhance creativity, and overcome fears. You can make profound changes by confronting your fears directly in your dreams. For example, if a monster is chasing you, you can stop and ask the beast what it wants. If you are conflict-avoidant in waking life, you may become more confident and assertive when you stand up to your fears in this way.

This correlates to the Jungian practice of active imagination. It is a form of introspection that allows you to observe and change your dreams by returning to them in a relaxed, semi-conscious state. Then, you can consciously alter the direction of your dreams, effectively reprogramming your unconscious mind. This practice empowers you to take control of your unconscious and harness its potential for personal growth and self-discovery.

Awaken the Psyche: Pre-Cognitive Dreams

Our thoughts program the future.

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”–Walt Disney

Another way dream work awakens the psyche is via precognitive dreaming. Precognitive dreams are dreams that foreshadow the future. Amazingly, everything that occurs on this physical plane has been initiated on the spiritual plane and built on the mental plane. Additionally, all cultures have reported precognitive dreams throughout history. Deja vu experiences may be related to these types of dreams. Sometimes, precognitive dreams are experienced as visions of your personal future or events that may occur to others or the masses. These experiences have been validated by dream and sleep scientists, researchers, and psychologists.

An example of precognitive dreams is prodromal dreams. These are dreams that foretell health issues or diseases before they are diagnosed. However, the majority of our dreams related to health encourage or sometimes admonish us so that we can make healthy lifestyle choices.

All significant Life Events are First Seen in our Dreams

Dreaming in the clouds
We all have pre-cognitive dreams.

When we see possible futures in our dreams, it is often because we have had thoughts that would lead us to those potential outcomes. Precognitive dreams can also help us see what we have created with our ideas and core beliefs. Though we can see many possible futures, we have the freedom to change our line of thinking and re-direct our lives. It is up to us to choose our own path.

It is said that nothing significant occurs in our life that is not first previewed in our dreams. This is why consistently recording and reviewing our dream journals is incredibly helpful, especially when making major life decisions. Fortunately, we can reprogram our unconscious with CBT, mindfulness training, and other self-improvement methods that can alter our life’s direction.

The Effects of Dream Recall and Dreaming on Memory

Image of boy fishing on the moon represents creative dreaming.
Creative dreaming improves memory.

A positive effect of dreaming is that your learning and memory become sharper. Dreaming reactivates and consolidates memory. It also helps you process emotions and work through your fears.

Dreams reveal which memories are being reactivated in sleep. How well you recall dreams and their details reflects how well memories are consolidated and processed. Since dreams are elusive and often fade upon awakening, committing to regular recall and recording your dreams can significantly improve your memory.

Additionally, psychological repression due to trauma may also impact your desire to remember your dreams. When you process your traumatic memories, you will feel safer to explore your dreams with care and confidence. This will then improve your dream recall and memory.

If you are ready to move forward, I have expertise in both dreamwork and trauma resolution. I also offer stress-resilience tools to support your growth process. I look forward to hearing from you!
