Dreamwork is a Sure Path to Wisdom - Iris Healing Arts

Sleeping woman in flowers is dreaming during the day. Dreamwork helps her understand her dream's wisdom.
Dreamwork informs us:
Nothing of significance occurs that is not first dreamed.

Why Do We Dream?

To understand how dreamwork awakens your inner wisdom, you must first know why you dream. Some of the many theories focus on the science of brain physiology. Yet, psychology focuses on the balancing and healing effects of dreaming, such as working through your traumas. For instance, dreams help you overcome your fears. Additionally, hallucinations may occur when you are sleep-deprived and do not experience enough REM dream cycles. Therefore, you need your anxiety dreams and nightmares to become whole.

A holistic philosophy, however, is concerned with the condition of your soul and how spiritual health affects mental, emotional, and physical well-being. From this perspective, dreams offer insight, solutions, encouragement, warnings, and the healing of life’s issues. Essentially, the spiritual purpose of dream work is to enhance your psychic (soul) development. Dreams urge you to become your best self.

Dreamwork and Spiritual Growth

An open hand reaches up to the sun. Dream works promotes spiritual awakening.
"Let your dreams lead you to where your
soul knows it belongs."-- Michael J. Day

From the soul’s view, dreaming has the same function as meditation: promoting healing and increasing our awareness of our spiritual nature. As such, it is our choice whether or not we live according to our spiritual ideals. These may include love, patience, kindness, courage, honesty, and faith. Since dreams guide you in all aspects of your life, they may also encourage you or admonish you if you lose your way.

The wise have said that all truth and knowledge are within us. Daily spiritual practices and dream work help us easily access this inner wisdom. We also become increasingly self-aware and can more gracefully cooperate with our soul’s intentions. With dreamwork and applying the guidance given, we progress on our spiritual path.

Yet amazingly, we can even connect directly with the Creative Forces or the Divine (according to our unique perception), though we often receive guidance from our higher selves. To clarify, although we are not God, we are a particle of Divine life. These transformative dreams are usually colorful and vivid, contain images of light, and are unforgettable. Additionally, many people report being visited by various souls and spiritual beings.

Where Do Dreams Come From?

The image of sunrise over the ocean is symbolic of awakening to spirit.
"Spirit is the Life, the mind is the builder, the physical is the result."-- E.C.

We are multidimensional beings with physical, mental (psychological or soul), and spiritual bodies. These correlate with our conscious, subconscious, and superconscious aspects

As conscious beings, we have access to dreams about these three dimensions. Dreams may be physical, mental, or spiritual. Examples of dreams from the conscious realm often relate to our practical lives. One practical benefit of dreamwork is that dreams can provide guidance about our physical health. This is because each cell has a conscious memory. However, prodromal dreams, which are warning dreams that pertain to potential future health issues, are related to pre-cognitive dreams. These come from the unconscious.

Dreams related to the superconscious or the spiritual body are the most transformative of all dreams. Some people report having direct encounters with the light or other aspects of the Divine. Other spiritual beings may visit us, including various saints, angels, and spirit guides. We may also encounter souls who visit us for various reasons. Some may need our prayers or have come to share love and guide us. Or, they may want to reassure us that they are well.

Dreams from the Subconscious

Boy exploring the ocean's depths; with dreamwork, we examine our soul's depths.
Dreamwork requires courage to face ourselves.

However, most commonly, most dreams come from the subconscious and reflect our psychological conflicts. These dreams may represent mental and emotional issues and may seem to be positive or negative. However, even a “bad dream” has been given to us for a reason. When we process challenging dreams, there is usually a hidden solution in the dream. It takes courage to take an honest look at ourselves in order to grow. Therefore, it’s crucial to process these dreams to uncover their hidden messages.

However, the quality of our dreams will change as we continue to apply our daily dream guidance. Significantly, we will receive more precise and direct guidance when we have resolved many of our psychological conflicts.

Nightmares may be scary, but they have the most value if seen for what they are: a robust wake-up call regarding something that is not yet conscious. Sometimes, we ignore our dreams and are finally given a shocking dream to get our full attention! Remember, nightmares help make us whole. When we repress our fears, our psyche will compensate by revealing and integrating these fears.

However, people who experience frequent night terrors often benefit from additional professional support. Seeking help from a qualified professional can provide valuable insights and strategies for managing these experiences. Feel free to contact me with any questions below. Thanks.

Essential Dreamwork Tips

Sunrise over Ocean symbolizes dreamwork and meditation leading to spiritual growth.
Meditation and dreamwork help us connect to Spirit.

Valuing your dreams is essential for dreamwork. Begin by writing down our dreams. Please read Dream Exploration to learn twelve steps to remember your dreams. Please also read Dream Interpretation to learn the twelve steps to process your dreams.

It is important to practice discernment when reviewing your dreams. For example, you may have encouraging, instructive, reprimanding, or inspirational dreams. At times, your dreams may also be deceptive or confusing. If so, meditation can help you discern whether a dream comes from your higher or lower self or other energies.

It is also crucial to have an attitude of expectancy when going to sleep. For example, asking for guidance from the Divine is essential to receiving the most helpful guidance. You can also program your subconscious with positive affirmations such as ” I am loved.”

Moreover, engaging in spiritual practices before sleep can significantly enhance the quality of your dreams. Requesting spiritual protection as you prepare for sleep or meditation can create a conducive environment for positive dream experiences.

By engaging in daily dreamwork, you open yourself to guidance on any subject. Drawing wisdom from various dimensions, your inner self provides you with what you need. Surrendering to and following this guidance fosters your faith, which is synonymous with resilience and personal growth.
