Plant Therapies – Iris Healing Arts

Welcome to the healing power of plant medicine, also known as botanical medicine, which encompasses herbal therapy or phytotherapy. Plant therapies are derived from many different parts of plants for therapeutic purposes. These elements include the leaves, bark, roots, seeds, berries, fruit, and flowers.

Plant therapies are commonly accepted integrative medicine tools. About twenty-five percent of prescription medications are derived from plants. With guidance, many may be combined with over-the-counter or professional botanicals. My functional and integrative medicine background enables me to guide you to the best available professional plant therapies for your consideration.

To begin, I suggest reading my post, ‘Botanical Medicine for Body, Mind, and Soul.’ It provides information on my training and an overview of my work with the various parts of plants. I also discuss the difference between qualitative and quantitative research studies. Depending on your needs and preferences, I may suggest professional products that blend various plant parts for optimal synergy, i.e., they enhance one another’s benefits. They may also combine herbs with nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, etc. To obtain professional products at a discount, see my Heath-Products page. You will find categories for research-based herbs and botanicals and the Bach Flower Remedies under the Homeopathy section. There are many other health sections as well.

In these posts, you can also explore the therapeutic use of essential oils and flower essences. These may be used separately or in professional-quality combination formulas. You will also learn how Bach flower therapy is used globally in healthcare and disasters. I have included posts on flower remedies for children and animals and many resources for your consideration. When properly used, profound healing occurs with plant oils and essences, whether alone or combined with other appropriate therapies.

Here, you will discover the effectiveness of these and other plant therapies in resolving many psycho-spiritual issues. They can be used in complementary ways. For example, flower essences address the deeper parts of the psyche for profound and long-lasting healing effects. Essential oils work mentally and physically, thus complementing flower essences beautifully. Other botanicals work on specific dimensions of healing according to their unique qualities. For instance, ginseng is a popular anti-inflammatory and antioxidant herb that enhances energy, muscle strength, and alertness.
